New review in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews: Can renewables power the AI boom?
I’m glad to share a new paper that has been accepted and is in press at Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.
Can Renewable Energy Meet the Surging Power Demand of Artificial Intelligence? A Systematic Review, led by Sunbin Yoo (Sungkyunkwan University), with me and Dohyung Kim (Kyushu University), takes on a question now at the center of both the AI and the energy-policy conversations: as data centers and large-scale AI training push electricity demand sharply upward, can renewable energy keep pace? The paper systematically reviews the evidence linking AI’s growth to power consumption and assesses both the potential and the limits of renewables in meeting that demand.
This one sits a little outside our usual traffic-and-mobility work, and it was a pleasure to think across the AI–energy boundary with collaborators in Korea and Japan.
Congratulations to Sunbin and Dohyung on the acceptance! 🎉
