Author topic trajectories
Each researcher's citation-weighted SPECTER2 centroid is computed for every five-year bin of their career, giving a polyline in UMAP space. Two scalars summarise the polyline: total path (sum of segment lengths) and net displacement (start-to-end distance). Their ratio η = net / path is 1 for a straight line and approaches 0 when the path closes back on itself. We classify authors with ≥ 4 bins (≥ 20-year publication window) into four shape classes; click any point or row to see that author's trajectory at right.
Class scatter
x-axis: total path (UMAP units). y-axis: net displacement. Diagonal = η = 1 (straight line).
Colored stars mark the four canonical exemplars used in §9 of the paper.
